چکیده

The effect of ions presence such as: Na + , K + , Ca 2+ , Cl , SO4 2and CO3 2, at various initial concentrations, on the kinetics of cadmium sorption by dried sunflower leaves was studied at 25°C in batch conditions. The presence of these ions in solution was found to inhibit the uptake of cadmium by dried sunflower leaves at different degrees. Na + and K + ions have no significant effect. For Ca 2+ , SO4 2and CO3 2ions, the effects ranged from an inhibition of cadmium by Ca 2+ and CO3 2to a weak inhibition by SO4 2. Cl -1 ion was found to enhance slightly cadmium uptake level. Simplified kinetics model: a pseudo second-order equation adequately described the kinetics of cadmium sorption by sunflower leaves: alone and in the presence of cations or anions. In the presence of cations, cadmium sorption kinetics by dried sunflower leaves was largely determined by external mass transfer diffusion steps. In the presence of anions, cadmium sorption kinetics was largely determined by intraparticle transfer diffusion steps.

Removal of Cadmium Ions from Aqueous Solutions by Two Low-cost Materials

This study compared the abilities of two low-cost materials: a dried activated sludge and sunflower leaves to remove cadmium from aqueous solutions. Kinetic data and equilibrium sorption isotherms were measured in batch conditions. Kinetics of cadmium sorption was time contact and initial cadmium concentration dependent. The cadmium uptake of these two low-cost materials was quantitatively eval...

A Study of Cadmium Removal from Aqueous Solutions by Sunflower Powders and its Modeling Using Artificial Neural Network

Background and purpose: Cadmium is hazardous and non-biodegradable material entering the food chain. In this paper, the removal of cadmium from aqueous solutions by sunflower powder (the natural biosorbent) was investigated. Materials and Methods: The experiments were performed in a batch system. The effect of parameters such as contact time, pH, cadmium concentration and adsorbent dose were ev...

Rate Determining Steps Study in Cadmium Sorption from Aqueous Solutions by Sunflower Leaves

Batch studies of cadmium ion sorption by dried sunflower leaves were carried out to identify the main rate controlling steps in the overall uptake mechanism, using a single external mass transfer diffusion model and intraparticle mass transfer diffusion model. Many classical parameters influencing cadmium sorption mechanisms namely: initial cadmium concentration, agitation speed, initial soluti...

Uranium Removal from Aqueous Solution Using Ion-Exchange Resin DOWEX® 2x8 in the Presence of Sulfate Anions

The current study was attributed to uranium (VI) ions adsorption using a anion exchanger resin, Dowex®2x8, in the presence of sulfate anions. Evaluation of operational parameters including contact time, pH, initial concentration of uranium ions, and presence of various anions (including phosphate, sulfate, chloride, fluoride, and nitrate) in the solution was assessed on sorption performance of ...
